Historic Drive Through the Pineywoods

The Pineywoods region is one of the top destinations for a scenic drive in East Texas. Start in Grapeland and go east on FM 227. You will pass various historical markers as you wind along FM 227, so pull over and take in some of the sights.

You will move into the Augusta Community, which also offers some historic sites such as the Augusta Cemetery. You will eventually come across Texas State Highway 21 and the El Camino Real. As you follow the El Camino Real, you will pass various historic sites, such as the Mission San Francisco de las Tejas State Park in Weches. You will also pass the Caddo Mounds State Historic Site and other cool places. Drive on to Alto and spend some time looking around. Then, you can go back in the other direction and see everything you missed.

US Highway 96 Past Jasper

If you want to keep things simple, hop on US Highway 96 and take it past Jasper. This relaxing drive will give you one beautiful view after the next. Take your time as you wind down the road. You can pass one mile after the next and never run out of things to see.

RM 2810 for Mountain Views

If you love the mountains, venture out to RM 2810 between Marfa and Ruidosa. You will get to enjoy some of the best views of the Chinati Mountains that you have ever seen. You will want to get out of your vehicle and snap some pictures so you can remember the drive forever.
